CINCINNATI -- University of Cincinnati men's golfers Sam Jean and Joey McCarthy were each named to the AAC's All-Conference Team on Tuesday.
Jean, a repeat and unanimous honoree, has improved his stroke average each season, including a team-low 71.45 this year. The Greenwood, Ind., native won the Badger Invitational in late September as part of five top-five finishes on the year. He was also fifth in the season-opening Hoosier Collegiate Invite to help the Bearcats claim the team title.
Jean had nine rounds in the 60s and finished his season with a 1-under 215 at the AAC Championships. He boasts a 4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering.
McCarthy recorded a career-low 72.79. He finished seventh at the AAC Championships, saving his lowest tourney score for last with a 6-under 210 that included a 69 and 68 to close it out. The Cincinnati native (St. Xavier HS) competed at DePaul for two years before transferring to UC for the 2019-20 campaign. McCarthy also qualified for the Canadian PGA Tour (McKenzie Tour) in February and will start competition soon. He has also held a 3.5 GPA in psychology.
Cincinnati had Jean, who joins Austin Squires (2017-19) as the Bearcats' only multi-year honorees, and Clay Amlung on the league's list last season. This year's team finished with its highest ranking of the Doug Martin era.
