GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The University of Cincinnati baseball team fell to the East Carolina Pirates, 6-3, in the series finale Sunday afternoon.
Graduate pitcher Tristan Weaver (4-5) started and took the loss on the mound for Cincinnati (17-24, 7-8). Sophomore pitcher Max Bergmann was lights out in relief, going three shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out one.
Redshirt senior infielder Dondrae Bremner led the way offensively for the Bearcats, going 2-for-2 in the ballgame with a double and two walks. Redshirt freshman infielder Kerrington Cross wasn't flashy, but was productive, going 1-for-2 with three walks. Sophomore outfielder Cole Harting also helped out, going 2-for-3 for Cincinnati with a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bearcats were trailing 2-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Redshirt sophomore catcher Joe Powell's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Cincinnati.
The Pirates then scored three runs to retake their advantage heading into the fifth inning, when the Bearcats responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Harting came across to score the lone run of the inning for Cincinnati, which tightened the Pirates lead to 5-3. The Bearcats were unable to get any closer, as East Carolina added one run to their tally on the way to a 6-3 final.
