CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati Director of Athletics John Cunningham announced on Thursday the hire of Brad Pike as Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director, Health and Wellness.
Pike will oversee all aspects of Cincinnati Athletics' student-athlete health and wellness operations, including the sports medicine, sport psychology and wellness, and sports performance departments.
"Brad is a leader in sports medicine and college athletics administration," Cunningham said. "He's the perfect fit to oversee our comprehensive health and wellness programs as we continue to grow our departments to offer the best care for our student-athletes. Brad's track-record and experience speak for themselves. He's made helping student-athletes perform at the highest level on and off the field his life's work. We are thrilled to have him join our team."
A veteran of over 30 years in the sports medicine field, Pike will be a valued addition to Cunningham's executive staff.
Pike joins the Bearcats from Syracuse, where he worked for more than 20 years and served as the health care administrator for the athletic department and was the associate athletics director for sports medicine since 2016.
"Brad's name and reputation rose to the top as we set out to recruit an industry leader with a track record of unifying departments to best serve the holistic development and care of student-athletes," said Maggie McKinley, Deputy Athletic Director/SWA. "I am excited to see how his leadership will transform the experience and performance of our student-athletes."
Pike worked with the Syracuse men's basketball program since 2000, winning one national championship and participating in three Final Fours. He was named head athletic trainer and director of sports medicine for the Orange in 2005. He also directed rehabilitation for all sports during his tenure at Syracuse.
In 2020, Pike was named as one of 15 members to the Atlantic Coast Conference's COVID-19 medical advisory group.
"I am thrilled to join John Cunningham's executive leadership team at the University of Cincinnati," Pike said. "I am not only impressed with the storied history of excellence of the athletics department, but with the short and long term visions John has for the future. I look forward to collaborating with the sports medicine, wellness and performance units to provide the safest and balanced experience for all Bearcats' Student Athletes."
Pike was a graduate assistant for the Orange from 1989-91 and worked in outpatient physical therapy centers for nine years before returning to Syracuse.
He is a 1989 graduate of Marietta (Ohio) College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in sports medicine. He earned his master's degree in education from Syracuse in 1991 and also received a bachelor's degree in physical therapy from the SUNY Health Science Center in 1994.
A certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), the College Athletic Trainers Society, the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association, and the New York State Athletic Trainers Association, Pike has presented at numerous symposiums and workshops.
He and his wife, Lynne, have two children – Ryan and Emily.
