CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati baseball team opened up its last home series of the year with a win over Memphis Friday by the score of 6-3 at UC Baseball Stadium. The win improves Cincinnati's record to 21-25 and 10-9 in the AAC.
Senior pitcher Beau Keathley was the star of the game, throwing his second career nine-inning complete game. He gave up three runs on eight hits, but struck out seven batters and worked efficiently all game. After giving up a run in the sixth, Keathley shut-out the Tigers for the last three innings.
Offensively, redshirt freshman infielder Kerrington Cross was a double short of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, a triple and a single while driving in three runs. Redshirt sophomore infielder Ryan Nicholson also had three hits, including a double, with two runs scored. Redshirt sophomore JP Sponseller also homered, going 1-for-4 and two RBIs on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game began with quick outs and moved at a fast pace, but Cross opened the scoring in the second with an RBI-triple to make it 1-0.
After two runs from Memphis, redshirt senior infielder Wyatt Stapp drove in Cross with a double to left center to tie the game at two. The Tigers took the lead again with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
From there, Cross and Sponseller's two-run homers powered the Bearcats to victory. Keathley finished off the game at 112 pitches and recorded all 27 outs.

- Keathley's nine-inning complete game was the second of his career, with the other coming on March 24, 2019, at Youngstown State. He finished today with seven strikeouts and allowed just one runner to reach base in the last three innings. This is his fifth quality start of the year and his second-straight outing going eight or more innings.
- Cross almost hit for the cycle, but ended up 3-for-4 with his sixth homer of the season. He now has a .392 on-base percentage, which is the third-highest on the team.
- Sponseller also launched his sixth home run of the year and he now has a hit in five-straight games.
- Nicholson recorded his second three-hit game of the season, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
- UC has now won 10 of the past 12 games against Memphis.
