TicketsCINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Bearcats fell, 7-3, to the Memphis Tigers Saturday at UC Baseball Stadium. The series is now tied at one and will be decided Sunday at noon.
Sophomore pitcher Max Bergmann (0-3) came out of the bullpen for Cincinnati (21-26, 10-10) and took the loss. Sophomore pitcher Conner Linn was a bright spot for the Bearcats, starting the ballgame and throwing 6.1 innings, giving up three runs, all earned, on six hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.
Redshirt junior outfielder Griffin Merritt's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included a double, a home run, a walk and an RBI. Redshirt senior infielder Wyatt Stapp furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Redshirt junior outfielder Paul Komistek also helped out for the Bearcats, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Bearcats first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Cincinnati scored three runs, including one driven in on a home run by Merritt. The Bearcats were unable to hold the lead, as Memphis scored six times over the remaining five innings to grab the 7-3 win.
GAME NOTES
- Linn earned his fifth quality start of the season today, going 6.1 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out four.
- Merritt hit his AAC-leading 17th home run of the season today and increased his slugging percentage to a league-best .722.
