TicketsBloomington, Ind. – The women's events at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships started today with the first rounds of track events and quarterfinals in field events. Leonie Troeger is the first Bearcat to secure a spot at the NCAA Championships in two weeks with her top-12 placing in the javelin.
UC ATHLETE PERFORMANCES
Leonie Troeger – Javelin Throw:
Troeger threw a 52.13m (171') in the javelin to take sixth place at the NCAA quarterfinals in the event, sending her on to the NCAA semifinals in Eugene, Ore. In two weeks. Her throws improved throughout the day with her best throw coming as her final of three throws.
Nadia Collins – Long Jump:
Collins ended her first season as a Bearcat with a jump of 5.82m (19' 1.25") into a headwind to finish in 29th in the NCAA Quarterfinals of the long jump. She scored her best jump of the day on her first jump into the strongest headwind.
Caisja Chandler – 100- and 200-meter Dsah:
Chandler, who competed in the NCAA semifinals in both the 100- and 200-meter dash last year, earned qualifying spots in both events. In the 100-meter dash, Chandler ran a time of 11.40, which gave her the top qualifying spot based on time. In the 200-meter dash, Chandler took second in her heat with a 22.85 to earn an automatic qualifying spot in the next round. She will be racing in both events again on Saturday.
Ellie Leather – 1,500-meter Run:
Leather, an NCAA All-American in the indoor mile, won her heat of the 1,500-meter run with a strong finish in the last 200 meters of the race to secure a spot in the next round of races in the event. She paced herself well throughout the race and took the last lap to edge out the other runners and cross the line in 4:17.21.

Day three of the NCAA East Regional Qualifying meet will take place tomorrow. Freshman Steven McElroy will race in the 400-meter dash NCAA quarterfinal at 6:50 p.m. when he will hope to move on to NCAA semifinals in Eugene, Ore.
