NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The University of Cincinnati baseball team dropped game two of the series against the Tulane Green Wave Saturday, 4-3.

Sophomore pitcher Conner Linn (4-2) got the ball to start for Cincinnati (18-25, 8-9) and took the loss. Redshirt sophomore pitcher Zach Segal was a bright spot for the Bearcats, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, with two walks and four strikeouts.

Redshirt junior outfielder Griffin Merritt's two doubles were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day. Redshirt senior infielder Dondrae Bremner compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a home run and an RBI. Redshirt sophomore JP Sponseller also helped out for the Bearcats, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bearcats were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Cincinnati got an RBI single from Sponseller, scoring redshirt freshman infielder Kerrington Cross from third base.

The Green Wave then scored three runs to retake their advantage heading into the sixth inning when the Bearcats responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Merritt came across to score the lone run of the inning for Cincinnati, which tightened the Green Wave lead to 4-2.

Cincinnati held the Green Wave off the board before narrowing the gap to 4-3 in the seventh. The Bearcats picked up a run on Bremner's leadoff home run off sophomore Brian Valigosky. The Bearcats were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
