NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Cincinnati received contributions from every part of its lineup as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Bearcats put eight runs on the board and knock off the Tulane Green Wave, 8-7, Sunday. The Bearcats took the series, winning two of three.
Graduate pitcher Tristan Weaver (5-5) started on the mound and picked up the win for Cincinnati (19-25, 9-9). The left-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out two. Redshirt junior pitcher Jackson Murphy also made an impact out of the bullpen for the Bearcats, throwing one shutout inning while allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.
Sophomore outfielder Cole Harting led the way offensively for the Bearcats, going 3-for-5 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBIs. Redshirt sophomore infielder Ryan Nicholson put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Redshirt sophomore infielder Kameron Guidry also chipped in, going 2-for-3 for Cincinnati with a home run and two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bearcats scored in six different innings on the way to the win. Cincinnati broke a 1-1 tie and took the lead for good at 2-1 in the third inning.
UC extended its lead to 5-1 thanks to home runs off the bat of redshirt sophomore catcher Cam Scheler and Nicholson in the fourth and fifth innings. Tulane would tighten the game in the seventh, scoring two runs to make it 6-4.
A Guidry homer and Harting single would make it 8-4, but the Green Wave clawed back to make it 8-7. Freshman pitcher Garret Harker would eventually shut the door, giving the Bearcats an 8-7 victory.
