CINCINNATI -- University of Cincinnati senior men's golfer Sam Jean collected one of the top awards in the country Tuesday, earning a spot on CoSIDA's At-Large Academic All-America Second Team.
Jean, who has one year of eligibility remaining, is the first in program history to claim the award and the sixth Bearcat this academic year (football's Bryan Cook, Lorenz Metz, Alec Pierce and Desmond Ridder, plus baseball's Griffin Merritt). He was also the only AAC athlete on either of the three Division I teams.
The Greenwood, Ind., native holds a 4.0 GPA in the mechanical engineering program. He was already named a unanimous All-AAC golfer for the second-straight season, in addition to a spot on the GCAA All-Midwest Region team. His trip to the NCAA Columbus Regional two weeks ago was the seventh-such individual achievement in the program's history.
Jean, who will exercise his bonus fifth year of COVID eligibility next season, has improved his stroke average each season at UC, culminating in a 71.61 mark this year. He had a bogey-free second round at the NCAA Regionals for a 2-under 69 and had five top-10 finishes out of 11 regular-season tournaments, including the Badger Invitational title in late September.
CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) sponsors a baseball, softball and track and field All-America team in the spring, as well as an at-large team, and that full one can be found here.
