EUGENE, Ore. – University of Cincinnati track and field great Annette Echikunwoke finished third in the hammer throw on Thursday night at the 2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships.

Echikunwoke's toss of 73.76 meters (242-0) at Hayward Field qualifies the UC alum for July's World Championships, which will also be held in Eugene.

Echikunwoke won the NCAA title for UC in the weight throw in 2017.

A US citizen, she competed for Nigeria in the leadup to the 2020 Summer Olympics, and qualified for the games, but did not compete.

She found out Wednesday she could compete for the United States this week and arrived in Oregon at 10 p.m. that night.

Kennedy Marable (triple jump) will join Echikunwoke in competing at the USATF Outdoor Championships this weekend, while Steven McElroy (400 meters), Annika Kinley (high jump) and Nadia Collins (long jump) are competing at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships, too.
