TicketsEUGENE, Ore. – University of Cincinnati track and field alumna Annette Echikunwoke will represent Team USA this weekend at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22. This marks the first time that the World Championships will take place in the United States as it is set be held at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field from July 15-24.
Echikunwoke is scheduled to take part in the women's hammer throw qualification round B starting at 4:30 p.m. ET on Friday with the opportunity to advance to the finals on Sunday. Live coverage from Hawyward Field on Friday will be aired on Peacock from noon to 11 p.m. ET.
Echikunwoke earned her spot on the national roster with a third-place mark of 73.76 meters (242-0) earlier this month at the 2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships. A U.S. citizen, she competed for Nigeria in the leadup to the 2020 Summer Olympics, and qualified for the games, but did not compete.
The Pickerington, Ohio native became the program's first national champion after securing the weight throw title at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships. Her personal-best weight throw of 24.78 meters (81-3.75) ranks as the fourth-best indoor performer mark in collegiate history and she remains the school record holder in four of five throwing events she competed in. Echikunwoeke concluded her collegiate career as a seven-time American Athletic Conference Champion and four-time USTFCCCA All-American First Team honoree.
