After struggling at the plate last year, Happ has come back and turned in a career-best season in 2022. He ranks fifth in the National League with 23 doubles, 11th with a .369 on-base percentage and 11th with 41 walks. The sixth-year pro has added 9 homers and driven in 41 runs, good for second most on the Cubs.

A three-year starter for the Bearcats from 2013-15, Happ batted .336 with 44 doubles, 25 home runs and 107 RBI in 163 games in a UC uniform. In 2015, Happ was named AAC Player of the Year after leading the conference in a number of statistical categories including batting average (.369), slugging percentage (.672), on-base percentage (.492) and walks (49). Capable of playing both infield and outfield, the future Cub became just the third player in UC history to be selected as a First Team All-American following his junior season in Cincinnati.

Happ went on to become the highest draft pick in Bearcats history, being selected 9th overall by the Chicago Cubs in the 2015 MLB Draft. Following his Major League debut on May 13, 2017, he has batted .247 with 97 doubles, 96 home runs and 277 RBI in over 600 career games with the Cubs.
