EUGENE, Ore. – University of Cincinnati track and field alumna Annette Echikunwoke finished 12th in the finals of the women's hammer throw on Sunday at the World Athletic Championships Oregon22.
 
Echikunwoke had a toss of 68.12 meters (223-5) in the finals round.
 
She qualified for the finals with the fifth-best toss (72.60 meters) during Thursday's preliminary round held at Hayward Field.
 
Echikunwoke's USA teammates, Brooke Anderson and Janee' Kassanavoid, finished first and third, respectively, during Sunday's finals.
 
Echikunwoke earned her spot at the World Championships with a third-place mark of 73.76 meters (242-0) earlier this month at the 2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships. 
 
The Pickerington, Ohio native is one of the most decorated female athletes in UC history. She won the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships national title in the weight throw and remains the school record holder in four of the five throwing events she competed in at UC. She was a seven-time AAC Champion and a four-time All-America First Team honoree.
 
Held for the first time in the United States, the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 features over 1,900 athletes from 192 teams, including 37 defending world champions. The meet will span ten days from July 15-24 at the historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
