Cincinnati Athletics won its first Ohio Valley Regional Emmy on Saturday when Let It Fly––a series following the 2021 Bearcats football team––took home an Emmy Award in the 'Sports Story - Short Form or Long Form Content' category.

Other nominees in the category included 4th Floor Creative, Ohio State University, WLEX, Post House, and Bally Sports, which won for the short form story "Sacred Ground."

The series debuted on July 29, 2021. It follows the Bearcats through the most pivotal preseason in program history: A historic senior class preparing for one final season and the team setting its sights on the 2021 College Football Playoff. The production team shot and released six episodes in the weeks leading up to the season. When Cincinnati qualified as a College Football Playoff semifinalist in December, a seventh episode was produced and released on December 29, 2021. All seven episodes are currently available on the Cincinnati Athletics YouTube channel.

The season was a hit among fans, accumulating more than 100,000 views, nearly 900,000 minutes watched, and more than one million impressions.

Let It Fly returns for a second season Thursday, August 4 at 7 p.m., following Cincinnati football as it reloads in the wake of nine selections in the 2022 NFL Draft and eyes a third consecutive conference title in its final season as a member of the American Athletic Conference.

The Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences was founded in 1962 and first presented awards in 1964. Today, the chapter presents Emmy Awards to television professionals in thirteen markets across four states.

The series wouldn't have been possible without so many in the department, including head coach Luke Fickell and the Cincinnati football staff, for opening the doors and letting us share their stories.
