Cincinnati Baseball Summer Ball Recap

CINCINNATI – The Bearcats stayed busy over the summer as 22 current and incoming Bearcats played in nine different leagues across the country.

CINCINNATI – The Bearcats stayed busy over the summer as 22 current and incoming Bearcats played in nine different leagues across the country. The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League featured the most University of Cincinnati athletes of all the leagues, with seven players.

Cape Cod Baseball League

Cole Harting spent the summer in the prestigious Cape Cod League, playing in 27 games for the Harwich Mariners. The outfielder's best day came on July 30th when he launched a ninth inning, 3-run home run against the Brewster Whitecaps.

Garrett Harker also suited up for the Mariners, posting a 4.35 ERA in eight relief appearances, striking out 14 batters in 10.1 innings. 

New England College Baseball League
Ryan Nicholson played in 22 games for the Martha's Vineyard Sharks of the NECBL. The redshirt junior recorded 19 hits, three doubles and one home run while scoring 10 runs and collecting 11 RBI.

Andrew Neff split his time between the North Ford Ospreys (HCBL) and the North Adams SteepleCats (NECBL). The lefty struck out 29 batters in 21.2 innings, posting a stellar 1.25 ERA in eight total appearances.

Coastal Plain League
Dylan Brosky, an incoming graduate transfer from California (PA), went 3-2 in seven starts with the Wilson Tobs of the CPL. The RHP struck out 33 in 28.1 innings with an ERA of 5.40.

Nick McClanahan, another grad-transfer (Franklin College), also spent his summer in the CPL with the Holly Springs Salamanders. The fifth-year hurler struck out 15 batters in 11.0 IP, picking up one save along the way.

Max Bergmann pitched out of the bullpen for the 2022 Champion Savannah Bananas. The junior made 11 appearances, posting a 2.50 ERA and striking out 21 batters in 18.0 IP.

Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League
Chase Hopewell was a lights-out reliever for the 2022 Champion Hamilton Joes. The righty posted a 0.50 ERA in 36.1 innings pitched, earning a 1-0 record with four saves. Hopewell also led the GLSCL with 56 strikeouts and was named a South Division starter in the GLSCL All-Star Game.

Max Palmieri also saw limited action with the Joes, collecting one hit and four defensive assists in two games at second base.

Alex Shea had a strong summer on the mound for the Cincinnati Steam. The flame-throwing lefty recorded a 1.74 ERA, picked up two saves and struck out 13 batters in six appearances before being selected to pitch in the GLSCL All-Star Game.

Josh Hegemann also suited up for the Cincinnati Steam, batting .262 with one double, one home run and 11 RBI in 23 games.

Jose Guzman joined his collegiate teammates with the Steam, posting a 2.45 ERA and striking out five batters in three appearances out of the bullpen.

Kerrington Cross also saw limited action for the Steam, collecting two hits, two walks and one stolen base in seven games in June.

Kory Klingenbeck, an incoming transfer from Walters State Community College, had an outstanding summer with his future teammates on the Steam. The catcher batted .387 in 13 games, hammering three doubles and one home run while walking 10 times.

Northwoods League
Mitch White, an incoming transfer from Abilene Christian, was a go-to reliever for the Traverse City Pit Spitters. The reliever picked up five saves in 21 games, posting a 1.75 ERA and striking out 24 batters in 25.2 IP.

California Collegiate League
Lauden Brooks, an incoming sophomore from Texas Tech, started 40 games for the 2022 Champion Healdsburg Prune Packers. The infielder tripled three times, picked up 13 RBI and drew 15 walks in his summer campaign.

Minority Baseball Prospect Collegiate Baseball League
Kameron Guidry spent the summer in his home state of Georgia with the Buzz of the MBP Collegiate League. The infielder was named MVP of the league's All-Star game in July.

Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League
CJ Dean was a standout outfielder for the 2022 HCBL Champion Sag Harbor Whalers. The sophomore batted .323 with six doubles, one home run and 17 stolen bases in 29 games played.

Tommy O'Connor was also a key player for the Whalers, both on the mound and at the plate. As a batter, the sophomore tallied four doubles, two home runs, 14 RBI, 13 walks and a .291 batting average. As a pitcher, the lefty picked up one save and struck out 12 batters in eight innings pitched. O'Connor was also the winner of the HCBL Home-Run Derby in early July.

Carter Earls also spent limited time in Sag Harbor this summer. In eight innings of work, the lefty went 1-1, recorded an ERA of 1.13 and punched out nine batters.

College Summer League at Grand Park
Cam Scheler was an All-Star for the 2022 Champion Bag Bandits. The catcher batted .258, smacking three doubles, two triples and four home runs in 21 games. Scheler was also named to the 2022 Postseason All-CSL team.

Sean Springer had a strong summer for the Park Rangers. The redshirt sophomore was selected as a CSL All-Star and named one half of the CSL's "Dynamic Duo" for helping to turn 25+ double plays in just 29 games.
