CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics gathered on Sunday evening to ring in the new academic year with the ONE TEAM Kickoff in Fifth Third Arena. The event, organized by the Student-Athlete Development Academy, highlighted new student-athletes and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Executive board: Co-Presidents Jodie Pierce (WTK) and Chris Stepak (Cheer), Vice President Madison Waters (WVB), Treasurer and Communications Office Katie Engle (WTK), Promotions & Marketing Coordinator Noelle Meeker (WTK), Campus & Community Engagement Officer Brock Shellhaas (MTK), and ONE TEAM Diversity & Inclusion Officer Dani Mlkvy (WLA).
Director of Athletics John Cunningham addressed the group of approximately 450 student-athletes and celebrated some of the most significant academic and athletic achievements of the 2021-22 year, including Male and Female Athletes of the Year, AAC Scholar-Athletes of the Year, and AAC Team Academic Excellence.
The department also recognized 170 student-athletes and spirit squad members for earning the Ally Sidloski Bearcats STRONG designation during the previous year. The program celebrates UC student-athletes who exemplify strength in all facets of student life. In August 2021, the award was named in honor of Ally Sidloski, a UC soccer student-athlete who passed away in May 2021. Sidloski embodied the Bearcats STRONG ethic, impacting student-athletes, coaches, and staff alike.
