CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati volleyball student-athlete Abby Walker was named to the American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Walker, a sophomore middle blocker, was named the 2021 AAC Freshman of the Year after an impressive rookie campaign. She was the second-ever Bearcat to win the honor, and the first to do so since Jordan Thompson in 2015. She also earned Second Team All-Conference honors.
Walker started and played in every match (28) and set (113) as a freshman. She finished with 286 kills, 73 blocks and 39 service aces to go along with a .312 hitting percentage. She finished fifth in the conference in service aces (39), eighth in hitting percentage (.312) and 17th in kills per set (2.53). She was an AAC Offensive Player of the Week selection and earned a spot on the honor roll three times in 2021.
The Bearcats were picked to finish third in the AAC Preseason Coaches Poll with 77 points, behind preseason favorite UCF (100) and Houston (88).
Cincinnati opens the 2022 season with the inaugural Tribute to #10 tournament, hosting Illinois State and Dayton on Friday (Aug. 26) and Florida State on Sunday (Aug. 28). UC renamed its home tournament in honor of former volleyball student-athlete and coach Stephanie Meinig-Rosfeld.
