Volleyball Knocks Off Florida State in Four Sets

The Cincinnati volleyball team knocked off Florida State in four sets Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.

CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati volleyball team knocked off Florida State in four sets Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. 
 
The Bearcats (1-2) wrapped up the inaugural Tribute to #10 tournament with a four-set victory over the Seminoles, who are receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll. 
 
The Bearcats' offense was paced by sophomore Abby Walker, who finished with a team-high 14 kills, and redshirt senior Kailea Carrier, who had 11 kills at a .318 clip to go along with five blocks.
 
Senior libero Payton Frederick steadied the defense with 15 digs while freshman setter Caroline Endres dished out 40 assists on the offensive end. Sophomore Shaye Eggleston added an all-around performance for the Bearcats with seven kills and eight digs.
 
// HOW IT HAPPENED
 
SET 1 | The Bearcats came out on top of a close first set, winning in extra points (26-24). Cincinnati trailed 22-19 late in the set, before going on a 5-1 run to take the lead at 24-23. Eggleston sealed the first-set win with a service ace. Walker put down six kills on 11 attempts (.545) to lead the Bearcat attack. 
 
SET 2 | The Bearcats scored first and never trailed in the second set to earn the victory, 25-23. Cincinnati opened up as much as an eight-point lead (13-5) before finishing off the set. The Bearcat offense got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
 
SET 3 | Cincinnati saw its bid for a sweep end when Florida State took set three, 25-9. The Bearcats struggled offensively, hitting -.207 in the stanza compared to FSU's clip of .265.
 
SET 4 | In a back-and-forth fourth set that featured 14 ties, Cincinnati came out on top with a 25-23 win. Neither team was able to grab a lead larger than three points along the way. Carrier and freshman Carly Glendinning each tallied four kills while Frederick notched six of her 15 digs in the stanza.
