CINCINNATI – An annual celebration of its best current and former student-athletes is on tap for the 21st Annual Legion of Excellence Gala on Friday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. ET inside Fifth Third Arena. The 2022 gala is sponsored by Johnson Investment Counsel.

The Legion of Excellence annually recognizes the academic achievements of current UC scholar-athletes from each sport, new inductees to the James P. Kelly Athletics Hall of Fame and UCATS Order of the Black Blazer along with a winner of the Strubbe Distinguished Service Award and the first Bob Goin Service Award for contributions to Bearcats Athletics.
The James P. Kelly Sr. UC Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1976 to honor and pay tribute to those individuals and teams who have made outstanding contributions in the field of intercollegiate athletics and helped bring recognition, honor, distinction and excellence to the UC and its athletics programs through participation, support or interest.
2022 INDUCTEES: Jacqueline Keire (Swimming & Diving), Kathy Klump (Track & Field), Lara Lauder (Volleyball), Laurie Pirtle (Women's Basketball)
The Bob Goin Service Award for contributions to UC Athletics is presented to a Bearcats coach, administrator or employee for distinguished service to UC Athletics. It is named in honor of former director of athletics Bob Goin whose impactful tenure from 1997-2005 brought unprecedented success to the Bearcats.
2022 HONOREE: Bill Mulvihill
A student-athlete representative from each team will be inducted into the Legion of Excellence. The selection for Legion of Excellence is based on the highest cumulative grade-point average on the respective team for the previous school year and good academic standing within the individual's athletics team and college.
