CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati men's golf team is set for its first tournament of the 2022-23 campaign, returning to a familiar site in the Badger Invitational in Fitchburg, Wisc.

Sunday's opening round was rained out, making forr 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday at the par-72, 7,286-yard University Ridge Golf Course.

Participating teams include Wisconsin, South Florida, Illinois State, UAB, Western Kentucky, South Carolina, Purdue, Nebraska, South Dakota, Ole Miss, Northern Illinois, Augusta, Marquette and Texas A&M.

The Bearcats' lineup includes returners Sam Jean and Ty Gingerich, as well as junior transfer William McDonald and freshmen Rylan Wotherspoon and Wyatt Plattner. Fellow rookie Ryan Ford is competing individually as well.

Jean claimed the individual crown at last year's event with a 73-67-69 for a 7-under 209. It was the program's first individual championship since Austin Squires at the Firestone Invitational in October 2017, and UC finished third as a team. Jean last season led the team with a 71.61 stroke average, including a spot in Columbus' NCAA Regional, where his 69 on the second round was the only bogey-free round of the field.

Gingerich was second last season with a 72.76 stroke average, including a pair of top-10 finishes. McDonald is an Arkansas transfer, set to appear in his first tournament since the 2019-20 season, in which he appeared in six. As a true freshman, he carded a 74.44 stroke average, with his best finish (16th) coming at UC's Bearcat Invitational, where the Razorbacks finished second.

Wotherspoon is a former Rolex All-American and Kentucky Mr. Golf honoree, playing at Florence's Cooper High School. Plattner is a native of Sarasota, Fla., and this summer won the 50th Southern Junior Championship title with a 9-under 201 among his many high school achievements. Ford was ranked No. 167 nationally.
