TicketsVERONA, Wisc. -- The Cincinnati men's golf team finally got underway amidst weather battles that began Sunday and are 11th after the first round of the Badger Invitational.
"After a first-round rainout, we came out today and weren't very sharp," head coach Doug Martin said. "I thought we fought hard today, but we just didn't get much out of our rounds. This is a very talented group, and I look forward to watching them compete tomorrow."
Two Bearcats (Rylan Wotherspoon, Wyatt Plattner) made their collegiate debuts, with Wotherspoon carding an even-par 72 to trail Sam Jean by a stroke. Both of them recorded five birdies apiece, despite 50-degree temperatures and winds up to 20 mph.
On the individual front, fellow freshman Ryan Ford carded a pair of 78s to rank 21st out of 28 at the Pleasant View Golf Course in Middleton.
Cincinnati, which won the Hoosier Collegiate Invite to open its Fall 2021 campaign, will look to rally on Tuesday. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.
