CINCINNATI -- Sam Jean matched a career-low 66 to close the Badger Invitational in third place, and the Cincinnati men's golf team jumped five spots to finish sixth at its first fall tournament.

"I'm really proud of the fight in this group today," head coach Doug Martin said. "Yesterday wasn't the start we wanted or expected. As veteran players, both Sam and Ty stepped up and played great rounds today. As a team, we had it going today and just hit a few poor shots as we made the turn that stopped our momentum. Now, we prepare for our home event next week."

Jean's round featured six birdies and an eagle on the 554-yard, 16th hole. His previous 66 came at the Steelwood Collegiate Invite that closed the Fall 2021 season. Jean also had 10 rounds in the 60s last season en route to earning NCAA Regional qualification. As for his third-place standing, he had five top-10 finishes last year, including winning the Badger Invitational (73-67-69=209).

Ty Gingerich boasted the best team's best turnaround, shaving seven strokes for a 4-under 68 that was one off a career-low.

Rylan Wotherspoon and Wyatt Plattner each carded 74s to finish 41st and 53rd, respectively. William McDonald rounded out the team scorecard.

This tournament was limited to two rounds due to weather that originated Sunday. Cincinnati's 10-stroke improvement was its best since the Colleton River Collegiate in March (17 strokes).

UC now looks ahead to the Bearcat Invitational, which runs Monday-Tuesday, at the Coldstream Country Club.
