CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team is set to open its 2022 fall slate with a 14-inning exhibition game at Notre Dame on Saturday, Oct. 1. First pitch in South Bend is set for 1 p.m.
Cincinnati and Notre Dame have met 44 times on the diamond dating back in 1948. The Fighting Irish own a 26-18 record against the Bearcats, but as Big East conference foes from 2006-2013, Cincinnati went 10-8 against the Blue and Gold, including four series victories. In the final meeting between the two teams on May 18, 2013, future major leaguer Ian Happ went 3-3 with a two-run home run in a 11-5 victory over the Irish at UC Baseball Stadium.
Cincinnati returns a pair of 2022 All-American Athletic Conference selections in INF Ryan Nicholson and SP Conner Linn. The Bearcats roster also features 16 local products including standouts OF Cole Harting, INF JP Sponseller, LHP Alex Shea and RHP Jackson Murphy. Fans will also be able to get their first look at some of the new faces in the program, including 11 freshmen from the class of 2022 and six incoming transfers.
