WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Cincinnati's 15-stroke improvement from the first to the second round was by far the best of the field, and the Bearcats' men's golf team is tied for seventh ahead of Tuesday's final round of the Old Town Collegiate.

Cincinnati's 273 was the third-lowest of any of the 24 combined rounds for the day.

"It was a tale of two rounds today," head coach Doug Martin said. "We really struggled in the morning on the greens with too many 3-putts and missed birdie opportunities. As a result, we put ourselves in a bad place. We really turned it around in the afternoon posting five scores in the 60s and shooting 7-under. It gives us a chance tomorrow to go out and post a low one. I felt we were really close in the afternoon to posting a crazy low one. We will need five guys in the game tomorrow."

Ty Gingerich was under-par in both rounds, including an eagle in the first. Plattner also added one in his second. Gingerich is tied for ninth on the heels of a second-place finish at Coldstream last week.

Jean, like he did in the last outing, had a 72 to start but was much improved in the second round to sit in 20th with momentum.

McDonald and Wotherspoon carded a 68 and 69, respectively, in the second round, marking season-lows for both.
