CINCINNATI -- Ty Gingerich tied for seventh, including three-straight under-par rounds, to lead the Cincinnati men's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Old Town Collegiate.
Gingerich's 4-under 206 included gives him five rounds in the 60s out of eight played in the fall. Sam Jean, fresh off his Bearcat Invitational title, notched nearly identical scores from his 72-67-67 tally with a 72-68-68 to tie for 12th. He also has five rounds in the 60s.
"It was another solid week of golf," head coach Doug Martin said. "Other than a poor start to the first round, we rebounded with 36 very good holes to finish the event. We were the low team of the last 36 holes at 11-under. Our last 10 rounds this week were all par or better with seven of them being in the 60s. This team continues to show tremendous toughness and resiliency. Over the next eight days, we must clean up a few things in preparation for ETSU."
William McDonald's even-70 was his second-lowest of the season, trailing only his 68 in Monday's second round, while his 28th-place finish continued his positive trend of upping his standing.
Cincinnati's 276 came on the heels of its season-low 273 to close Monday. The Bearcats' other sixth-place finish came in the 18-team Badger Invitational to open the season and also featured a strong finish.
UC continues play at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate (Oct. 9-11) in Johnson City, Tenn.
