he University of Cincinnati volleyball team suffered a four-set loss to No. 7-ranked BYU on Friday night at the Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah.

PROVO, Utah – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team suffered a four-set loss to No. 7-ranked BYU on Friday night at the Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah.
 
Facing their second top-10 team in as many games, the Bearcats could not overcome a strong offensive performance by the Cougars. BYU finished with a clip of .363, totaling 63 kills on 124 attempts. UC finished with a hitting percentage of .129 with 41 kills on 124 attempts. 
 
Sophomore Shaye Eggleston provided an all-around performance in the loss. She recorded a season-best nine kills to go along with seven digs. Sophomore Abby Walker added nine kills and three blocks while freshman Avry Tatum provided a lift off the bench with eight kills. 
 
// HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | BYU opened the match 8-for-8 on the attacking end to lead, 11-4. The Cougar attack was too much to overcome for the Bearcats as BYU took the first frame, 25-13. BYU hit .538 compared to UC's mark of .037.
 
SET 2 | After falling behind early in the second set, UC went on a 7-1 scoring run to tie the game (10-10). Freshman Carly Glendinning notched two kills during the run. The Bearcats took their first lead of the match at 16-15 and later went on a 3-0 run to lead 20-18. UC held on for the set win, 25-21, to even the match at one set apiece. The Bearcats hit .212 in the frame behind a combined seven kills from Kailea Carrier and Walker. 
 
SET 3 | BYU came out attacking on all cylinders to begin the third set, later finishing with a hitting percentage of .696 in the stanza (17-1-23). The Bearcats pulled within five (16-11) before BYU ended the set on a 9-3 scoring run (25-14). Eggleston notched three kills and was a perfect 15-for-15 on service reception. 
 
SET 4 | Another strong start found the Bearcats down six in the fourth and final set (13-7). UC was able to string along series of points to pull within four late in the frame (21-17). However, BYU pulled away with the set win, 25-19, and match, 3-1. Tatum tallied five kills and three digs in the stanza.
