PROVO, Utah – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team was swept by Utah State on Saturday afternoon at the Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah.
The Bearcats wrapped up a challenging weekend at the BYU Nike Invitational where they faced two top-10 programs in No. 7 BYU and No. 10 Pitt as well as Utah State, who is receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll.
Utah State, who earned the program's first regular season Mountain West title a season ago, outhit Cincinnati .271 to .181. The Bearcats were unable to recover from a first set that saw Utah State score the final 13 points.
Sophomore middle blocker Abby Walker was named to the BYU Invitational All-Tournament Team. She averaged 2.92 kills and 0.92 blocks per set and registered a career-high 23 kills against the 10th-ranked Pitt Panthers.
Sophomore outside Shaye Eggleston also shined for the Bearcats this weekend. Against the Aggies, she notched a season-best 10 kills with only one attacking error on 25 attempts (.360). She added six digs, four service aces and a block. She averaged 1.92 kills and 1.67 digs per set during the tournament.

SET 1 | The Bearcats jumped out to an early 12-4 advantage in the opening set. UC continued its run, leading by as many as 10 on three occasions. Momentum then shifted in favor of Utah State as the Aggies scored the final 13 points of the frame (25-22).
SET 2 | UC had another strong start to the second set, owning a 6-1 advantage after back-to-back service aces from Eggleston. Utah State used a 4-0 scoring run to take its first lead of the set (15-14). The Aggies then used another 4-0 spurt to extend their advantage (20-16). The Bearcats were unable to overcome the deficit, falling 25-22 in the frame.
SET 3 | Eggleston continued to fill the stat sheet, scoring four points as UC grabbed an early 7-2 lead. The Aggies then began to chip away at the Bearcat advantage, evening the set at nine apiece. The two teams then traded points for a 20-20 score. Utah State finished the set on a 5-1 scoring run to win the frame, 25-23, and match, 3-0.
