JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. -- The Cincinnati men's golf team matched a season-low with a 15-under 273 in Tuesday's final round, rallying itself to the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate championship.
With the team's title at the Bearcat Invitational (Coldstream Country Club) last month, this marks UC's second of its four overall events on the young season, as well as its first campaign with multiple titles since 2007-08. The Bearcats, who entered the day in fourth-place and three strokes off the lead, have won seven tournaments over the past 10 years.
"What a performance by this group today!" head coach Doug Martin said. "I challenged them last night to go out and post a score. I knew it would take under-12 or 15 to have a chance. We finally got off to a good start and just kept battling. I'm so happy for this group. Their focus and passion to get better every day has been incredible to watch as a coach. Great weeks by Sam, Ty and Wyatt's first top-10 trip as a college player. It will be a quick celebration and back on the road for Vero Beach on Thursday morning."
Ty Gingerich earned his third-straight top-10 finish by leading UC with a 11-under 205, lowering his score by a stroke in each of those three events. Sam Jean was right behind in a tie for fourth place, carding a 9-under 207. It was his third top-five finish. He and Gingerich both have seven sub-70 rounds out of 11 on the entire fall.
Freshman Wyatt Plattner tied for seventh after lowering his score each round to a 7-under 209. It serves as the highest finish for a UC rookie since Gingerich was second at the OldField Invitational in February 2021, his collegiate debut. Plattner has not only improved his standing in every outing of his young career; he has also seen a 20-spot jump twice from tournament-to-tournament.
Not to be outdone, fellow freshman Rylan Wotherspoon posted his highest finish (tied for 29th), while lowering his score in each round.
UC's quick turnaround is also for the fall finale: the Quail Valley Intercollegiate in Vero Beach, Fla., on Saturday and Sunday.
