CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team dropped a four-set decision to Wichita State on Friday in Fifth Third Arena.
The Bearcats (4-13, 2-5 AAC) could not overcome a big night at the net for the Shockers, who tallied 16 total blocks in the match.
Freshman right side Avry Tatum led the Bearcats in kills for the fourth straight match, finishing with 15. It marked her fifth straight game in double figures and 10th of the season.
Freshman outside Carly Glendinning added 14 kills, marking her eighth straight match with double-digit kills. Sophomore setter Emme Madden dished out 45 assists to go along with nine digs and three blocks.

SET 1 | The two teams traded points in the early going until Wichita State used a pair of scoring runs to lead by five (23-18). The Bearcats refused to go down without a fight, cutting the deficit to two (23-21), but the Shockers would hold on to win the frame, 25-21.
SET 2 | Cincinnati opened the second set on a 7-0 run to lead 10-5. The Bearcats held five-point leads four times, including a 20-15 advantage. The Shockers then went on a 5-1 scoring run to pull within one. Wichita State reclaimed the lead at 25-24 but the Bearcats dug deep in extra points to win the set, 28-26. UC's block came out in the stanza, stuffing WSU five times. Tatum notched seven of her 15 kills in the frame.
SET 3 | After Wichita State jumped out to a 4-0 lead, UC responded with a run of its own to reclaim the advantage at 8-6. The Shockers later used a 6-0 spurt to take control for the remainder of the frame, winning the set 25-20. Junior Elissa Alcantara erupted for five kills in the stanza.
SET 4 | After trailing by as many as five, Cincinnati fought back to tie up the set at 20 apiece. Abby Walker and Glendinning came up clutch for UC during the stretch, each putting down three kills. Wichita State would hold on and score four of the final five points to win the set, 25-21, and match, 3-1.
