VERO BEACH, Fla. -- The Cincinnati men's golf team finds itself in sixth-place and 11 strokes back after Sunday's first two rounds of the stacked Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational.
All 16 teams are under-par heading into Monday's final round. Ty Gingerich leads the Bearcats with a tie for 19th, carding a 67 after a 72 to start. Sam Jean follows at 21st with a 4-under 140, while Rylan Wotherspoon also cut five strokes from a 73 to a career and season-low 68 to tie for 33rd.
"Today was a crazy day," head coach Doug Martin said. "We played so well for stretches of holes, while at the same time made horrible mistakes that really cost us today. I am proud of the fight at the finish of the second round, where we played our last five holes at 6-under. Tomorrow is a new challenge and we have to come out ready to fight."
William McDonald (t-51st) and Wyatt Plattner (t-54th) follow. McDonald's 70 was his best opener of the season.
The Bearcats' 279 to start was two strokes off their best first round of the season. When UC won the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate last week, it saved its best for last.
