CINCINNATI – Strong serving powered the University of Cincinnati volleyball team past South Florida on Sunday afternoon inside Fifth Third Arena. 
 
The Bearcats (6-14, 4-6 AAC) recorded season bests in service aces (14) and hitting percentage (.320) in the three-set victory. 
 
Five Bearcats notched a service ace in the match. UC was one ace shy of tying the program's rally-scoring-era record for service aces in a three-set match. 
 
Sophomore outside hitter Shaye Eggleston dominated in the victory, posting a team-high 11 kills at a .588 hitting percentage to go along with three aces and seven digs. 
 
Senior defensive specialist Maria Tobergte and sophomore middle blocker Abby Walker each registered four aces in the match. 
 
// HOW IT HAPPENED 
SET 1 | Cincinnati jumped out to a 15-4 advantage in the first set. The run was highlighted by impressive serves from Avry Tatum, Walker and Tobergte. USF responded with a 6-0 scoring run (15-10) and pulled within three (18-15), but the Bearcats staved off the comeback attempt to win the set, 25-17. The Bearcats hit .367 in the opening stanza.
 
SET 2 | UC got out to an 8-2 advantage thanks to three early aces. The Bearcats extended their advantage to nine with Tobergte behind the service line (14-4). Cincinnati cruised to the set-win, 25-13, notching five aces in the set, including two from Walker. 
 
SET 3 | Tobergte once again powered UC on a scoring run in the third and final set. The Bearcats rattled off six straight to lead 9-4. Eggleston then notched back-to-back aces to extend the advantage to eight (15-7). The Bulls pulled within five but would not get any closer for the remainder of the set (25-17).
