CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati senior Maddie Walker was named American Athletic Conference Women's Cross-Country Athlete of the Week, by the conference on Tuesday
This is the first time in her career that she has received the honor.
For the third straight meet, Walker was the Bearcats' top scorer on the women's team. She posted a time of 17:09.4 in the women's gold 5K at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classics. Averaging a mile pace of 5:31, she would place 21st overall after improving nine places after the first split.
"Super proud of Maddie", women's coach Sarah Anderson said. "Being on co-op this semester, she has had to do a majority of her training solo. Regardless, she has been putting in consistent high mileage weeks. Louisville was a great race for her and will give her confidence as we move into the second half of the season"
The Batavia, Ohio native led the UC women to a 16th place team finish with 488 points out of 41 teams entered in the meet.
Walker joins fellow teammate, senior Tyler Wirth, to garner Athlete of the Week honors this season.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 14, as they travel to Peoria, Illinois for the Bradley Pink Classic, hosted by Bradley University.
