PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team earned a thrilling five-set win over Temple on Friday night at McGonigle Hall in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Bearcats (4-11, 2-3 AAC) went up 2-0 in the match before fighting off the reverse sweep bid by the Owls to win in five sets.
Cincinnati was led by underclassmen trio Avry Tatum, Carly Glendinning and Abby Walker. Tatum finished with career-high 22 kills at a .269 hitting percentage. It marked her second straight match leading the Bearcats in kills.
Glendinning notched her sixth straight match with double-digit kills, recording 16 to go along with a career-high 16 digs. Walker was the third Bearcat in double figures. She posted 15 kills with only one attacking error on 30 attempts for an efficient clip of .467.
In her third match back, sophomore setter Emme Madden dished out 49 assists to go along with nine digs. Defensively, senior Payton Frederick registered a season-best 21 digs.

SET 1 | After trading points in the early going, the Bearcats went on an 8-1 scoring run to lead 15-8 in the first set. The Owls pulled within two (23-21) but the Bearcats held on for the set-win, 25-22. Cincinnati limited Temple to a .067 hitting percentage while Tatum and Glendinning combined for nine kills in the opening frame.
SET 2 | Cincinnati used a 6-1 scoring run to pull ahead in the second set (13-5). The Owls scored four straight to cut UC's lead to four (15-11) before the Bearcats rattled off four straight, including back-to-back kills from Glendinning (19-11). UC hit .290 with 12 kills and only three attacking errors on 31 attempts to win the second frame, 25-17.
SET 3 | Despite Temple jumping out to an 8-4 lead, Cincinnati evened the third set at 10 apiece after a Tatum kill. The Owls used a pair of scoring runs to jump in front for the remainder of the set, winning the frame 25-22. Temple hit .229 compared to UC's mark of .167.
SET 4 | Temple owned an 8-5 lead in the early going of the fourth set. UC pieced together four straight points to take its first lead of the set, 15-14. Temple responded with a run of its own to win the fourth stanza, 25-20.
SET 5 | Cincinnati went on a 4-1 scoring run behind back-to-back kills by Tatum (9-5). Walker powered the Bearcats to victory, securing the final two kills for the team. The Bearcats won the set, 15-8, and match, 3-1. Walker and Tatum combined for nine of UC' 10 kills in the frame.
