The University of Cincinnati volleyball suffered a five-set loss to East Carolina on Sunday afternoon at Minges Coliseum in Greenville, N.C.

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team suffered a five-set loss to East Carolina on Sunday afternoon at Minges Coliseum in Greenville, N.C.
 
The Bearcats (4-12, 2-4 AAC) went up 2-1 in the match before the Pirates completed the comeback in five sets. 
 
Freshman right side Avry Tatum recorded the first double-double of her career with 18 kills and a career-high 14 digs. Sophomores Shaye Eggleston (14k/17d) and Emme Madden (52ast/11d) also notched double-doubles in the loss.
 
Defensively, sophomore Abby Walker tied her career-high eight blocks to go along with 14 kills. Senior Payton Frederick posted a match-high 20 digs and season-best seven assists. 
 
// HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Cincinnati fought off a slow start to win the opening set, 25-23. The Bearcats trailed by as many as five (13-8) before using a pair of scoring runs to claim the frame. Eggleston, Tatum and Carly Glendinning combined for 18 kills in the first stanza.
 
SET 2 | The second set saw 13 ties and four lead changes. UC led 20-18 before ECU went on a late run to win the frame in extra points, 27-25. Walker tallied six kills in the set.  
 
SET 3 | Cincinnati's defense shined in the third set, propelling the Bearcats to a 25-19 set win. UC scored seven of the final nine points in the frame, highlighted by a pair of blocks. The Bearcats totaled five blocks and 20 digs in the set. 
 
SET 4 | The Bearcats led by as many as five in the fourth set (17-12) before ECU scored seven straight points to jump in front for the remainder of the stanza. Cincinnati struggled offensively, tallying 11 attacking errors.   
 
SET 5 | ECU carried the momentum into the final set, taking an early 6-4 lead. The Bearcats later evened the set at 13 all, but the Pirates finished off the match with back-to-back kills.
