University of Cincinnati sophomore punter Mason Fletcher grabbed Ray's 8 mention from the Ray Guy Award for his performance against Navy, the Augusta Sports Council announced on Monday.

CINCINNATI — University of Cincinnati sophomore punter Mason Fletcher grabbed Ray's 8 mention from the Ray Guy Award for his performance against Navy, the Augusta Sports Council announced on Monday. 
 
Fletcher posted four punts for 199 yards versus the Midshipmen, averaging 49.8 yards per punt.He had two punts over 50 yards and three punts downed inside the 20-yard line. He now has 22 punts down inside the 20-yard line this season. 
 
Additionally, he had his second punt of the season downed at the 1-yard line. 
 
The Melbourne, Austrailia native is one of eight punters selected for Ray's 8 national punters of the week, joinging Anthony Beck II of Georgia Southern, Bryce Baringer of Michigan State, Ethan Duane of Old Dominion, Jack Browning of San Diego State, Kai Kroeger of South Carolina, Lachlan Wilson of Tulsa and Ty Zentner of Kansas State.
 
The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thompson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner is net punting average, number of times punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned with particular emphasis on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team's success.
