CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team earned six spots on the 2022 Academic All-District Team, announced by the College Sport Communicators.
Ashley Barron, Lauren Bastian, Kendall Battle, Paige Miller, Anna Rexford and Brandi Thomsen were recognized by the organization for their combined performances on and off the pitch.
To be selected, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve that has played at least 50 percent of their team's games and holds at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average throughout their collegiate career. The student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at their current institution and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in December.
Barron, a sport administration major, became the only Bearcat and only overall athlete, to win American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year three times. The Toledo native also earned her fourth spot on the All-Conference First Team, the only player in program history to do so. Barron boasts a 3.96 grade point average and notched two goals and an assist on the season, anchoring a backline that allowed only 154 shots.
Bastian, a 2022 Legion of Excellence inductee, was named to All-Conference Second Team after recording a team-high three assists and two goals on the season. Battle, an operations management and international business major, holds a 3.78 grade point average and earned her second All-Conference Second Team distinction after logging 1,472 minutes on a defense that achieved seven shutouts.
Rexford is an exercise science major who played 1,515 minutes in goal and tallied seven clean sheets, the most of her career. Miller, a biochemistry major with a 3.93 grade point average, totaled a team-high four goals and nine points on the season.
Thomsen graduated in December 2021 with a degree in biological sciences and is currently working on a post graduate degree in interdisciplinary studies where she boasts a 3.86 grade point average. Thomsen started all 17 matches and recorded a team-high three assists.
