TicketsCINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team placed four players on the Academic All-District® Team, announced by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.
Seniors Kailea Carrier, Kerstin Ficker and Maria Tobergte, and sophomore Abby Walker captured All-District accolades for the first time in their careers.
The 2022 Academic All-District® Women's Volleyball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
Carrier already has a biology and communications degree and is working on her master's degree. She has played in all but one set this season, leading the team in blocks (98) and blocks per set (0.93).
Ficker, a pre-nursing major, will attend nursing school at UC upon graduation. She has totaled 108 digs and 12 service aces this season.
Tobergte is majoring in English literature and will attend law school post-graduation. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa – awarded to the top-10 percent of College of Arts and Sciences graduating seniors.
Walker, a 2022 Legion of Excellence inductee, boasts a 4.0 GPA and is majoring in interdisciplinary studies. She has played in every match, averaging 2.45 kills and 0.83 blocks per set.
Honorees must have at least a 3.50 GPA and be a major contributor to their teams on the court.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All- America® honorees will be announced in late December.
