Volleyball Adds Three to 2023 Incoming Class

University of Cincinnati volleyball head coach Molly Alvey has announced the signings of three student-athletes who will compete for the Bearcats beginning in 2023.

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati volleyball head coach Molly Alvey has announced the signings of three student-athletes who will compete for the Bearcats beginning in 2023. 
 
The signing class features Carly Skrabak (Franklin, Tenn.), Nina Horning (Lake Orion, Mich.) and Zeta Washington (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.).

Skrabak, a 5-foot-6 libero, will join the Bearcats as a graduate transfer in 2023. She spent the last three seasons at national contender Marquette, playing in two straight NCAA Tournaments, including a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2022. She has totaled 1,487 digs in her decorated career. 
 
"Carly is an amazing athlete and such a competitive volleyball player," said Alvey. "She has been a part of a Top 20 program year in and year out. She has contributed at an incredibly high level as Marquette's starting libero. Her work ethic is relentless and that's what any coach wants out of that position. We are excited to add Carly and her experience to the program."
 
In 2022, Skrabak was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week twice, tabbed to the NCAA's top liberos list and earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Championship Team. She posted season bests in digs (512), assists (128) and aces (21). 
 
Skrabak is a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic selection and was named CSC Academic All-District. 
 
The Franklin, Tenn., native began her career at Tennessee Tech in 2019. She graduated from Centennial High School, where she was a two-time team MVP. She played club for Tennessee Performance Volleyball.

Horning, a 6-foot-5 outside hitter, was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Lake Orion High School in Michigan. She totaled 1,930 kills, 845 digs, 291 aces and 150 blocks in her storied high school career. Her 1,930 kills set the high school's record. 
 
"We are so excited to have Nina join us in January," said Alvey. "She has the ability to do things that many players cannot do because of her length and presence at the net. She has an unbelievable work ethic that always has her pursuing greatness both on and off the court. Nina will make an immediate impact as a Bearcat."
 
Horning recorded 703 kills at 5.80 kills per set as a senior. She was named a finalist for the 2022 Miss Volleyball Award in Michigan. She garnered First Team All-State recognition twice and was named an AVCA All-American. 
 
The Lake Orion, Mich., native plays club for the No. 1 team in Michigan and No. 3 team in the country, Legacy Volleyball Club. She is a two-time national champion and was named an AAU All-American.

// ZETA WASHINGTON
Zeta Washington, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker, starred at powerhouse Ponte Vedra High School in Florida. She totaled 1,088 kills at an impressive .504 hitting percentage to go along with 175 blocks (67 solo) during her high school career. She led Ponte Vedra to two state titles.
 
"Zeta is one of the most vibrant volleyball competitors that I have ever seen and recruited," said Alvey. "She always has the biggest smile and largest personality off the court but is the ultimate competitor on the court. She competes for every point of every match. On top of that, she hits the ball harder than any player I have ever coached."
 
Washington is the No. 6-ranked middle blocker and No. 31-ranked player in the country according to Prep Dig. 
 
As a senior, she totaled 313 kills at 4.70 kills per set. She ranked second in the state of Florida for hitting percentage with an impressive clip of .587. 
 
In 2021, Washington a part of the MaxPreps Underclass All-American Team, the only name to be on the list from Florida. The award recognizing the nation's top 50 high school players in their junior year or younger.
 
The Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., native plays club for OTVA where she medaled at AAU's, Triple Crown, NEQ's, Sunshine and Big South. She was named an AAU All-American.
