CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team will make the seven-mile trip over the Ohio River to face Northern Kentucky inside Truist Arena on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET. The game will be aired on ESPN+.
Wednesday marks the fourth of five road games for Cincinnati in the month of December. The Bearcats are 2-1 on the road this month, earning victories at North Carolina A&T and Ohio.
This will be the 21st-ever meeting between the two programs. The series is tied 10-10 and 5-5 in Northern Kentucky. Cincinnati defeated Northern Kentucky, 73-67 (OT), at home in the last meeting on Nov. 21, 2019. The Bearcats are currently on a two-game winning streak in the series. Cincinnati last played at Northern Kentucky on Dec. 17, 2014.
Cincinnati never trailed in a 99-57 win over Southern Indiana last time out inside Fifth Third Arena on Sunday. The 98 points are the most scored under head coach Michelle Clark-Heard and the most since Cincinnati defeated Charleston Southern 105-60 on Nov. 25, 2003. The 42-point margin of victory also ties the second largest under Clark-Heard.
Head coach Michelle Clark-Heard also earned her 250th career win last Sunday, becoming the second coach in program history and one of four active American Athletic Conference head coaches to reach the mark.
Cincinnati recorded a season-high 47 bench points in the win, marking the second-straight game that the Bearcats have recorded 40-plus points off the bench. Cincinnati improves to 6-1 when outscoring their opponent in bench points this season. The Bearcats also converted on 30-39 from the free throw line, the most free throws made and attempted under Clark-Heard.
Cincinnati forced Southern Indiana into a season-high 27 turnovers, converting them into 34 points off the turnovers. The 34 points off turnovers is the most under Clark-Heard. The Bearcats also recorded a season-high 17 points, while 12 Bearcats scored in the contest.
Junior guard Jillian Hayes turned in her 11th-straight double-digit scoring game with 15 points and eight rebounds. The 11 straight games in double figures are the most since I'Imari Thomas did so in 13 consecutive contests in 2019-20. Sophomore forward/center Clarissa Craig finished with a career-high 15 points and seven rebounds, while redshirt sophomore Taziah Jenks pulled down a career-high seven rebounds.
Northern Kentucky is off to a 6-4 overall, 1-1 in the Horizon League start in the sixth season under head coach Camryn Whitaker. The Norse are 5-2 at home this season, averaging 74.7 points per game inside Truist Arena. The Norse are led by three players who are averaging double-digit scoring this season. Graduate student guard Lindsey Duvall is posting a near double-double with a team-high 19.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. Her scoring average ranks 24th nationally.
