CINCINNATI— The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams open up their 2022-23 indoor track and field season at the Hoosier Open on Friday.

"We are excited to open the indoor season with the Hoosier Open," head coach Susan Seaton said. "We are looking forward to achieving some good early season marks and testing out our athletes against some good competition. It will also be great to see all the newcomers compete as Bearcats for the first time."

Cincinnati added 36 newcomers, 19 freshmen and 17 transfers to the roster for this season.

// THE HOOSIER OPEN
The Hoosier Open is hosted by Indiana University and will be held at the Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Ind. Field events are slated to begin at 3:45 p.m. with the women's weight throw, and the women's 60m hurdles will kick off the running events at 4:30 p.m.

The meet will conclude at 8:35 p.m. with the men's 4x400 relay. The list of events and start times can be found here.

This will be the second straight season the Bearcats have opened the indoor track and field season at the Hoosier Open and the sixth time since Cincinnati joined the American Athletic Conference. Last season, the Bearcats won seven events and broke two UC school records at the Hoosier Open.

// LAST TIME OUT
To prepare for the 2022-23 indoor track and field season, UC held the 42nd annual Red vs. Black Intrasquad meet.

The Red Team won 93-83 in the combined team totals after tallying 12 event wins, including five out of the six running events. The meet was tightly contested all the way to the end as the men's Red Team won 48-41, while the women's Red Team won 45-42.

Three Bearcats set meet records, with two coming in the 600-yard dash. Dominique Hall (1:12.0) and Carmen Licht (1:26.4) each won the 600-yard with their record times for the Red Team. Newcomer Fred Moudani already made his presence on the team known, as he broke the meet shot put record with a mark of 19.12m.

Hall, the multi-event athlete, had quite the meet as he also won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.4 seconds and placed second in the long jump with a leap of 6.85m.

Korbin Spencer and Hannah Jackson joined Hall as the only other Bearcats to win multiple events. Jackson won the women's weight throw with a mark of 18.37m and the women's shot put with a toss of 14.34m. Spencer impressed by winning the men's discus event with a throw of 51.23m and the men's weight throw with a mark of 17.18m. Note that none of the times or marks count towards NCAA qualifying marks, as this meet was a scrimmage.
