Nashville, Tenn. – Both the men's and women's mile run school records went down in Nashville as the track and field team completed day one of the Music City Challenge.

Senior Ellie Leather broke her own mile run school record set earlier this season to set the new mark at 4:34.89.

Sophomore Tyler Wirth broke the 38-year-old men's mile run school record to improve the record time to 4:00.26.

PERFORMANCES OF NOTE
Women's Mile Run:
Leather improved upon her previous school record by almost two seconds to set the new record of 4:34.89, taking second in Music City. This mark currently puts her 7th in the nation.  Junior Maddie Walker set a personal best by over five seconds with a 4:52.84, ranking third all-time at UC.

Men's Mile Run:
Wirth's record-breaking 4:00.26 broke Jeff Johnson's 1984 school record by almost four seconds. He placed 11th in Nashville, winning his heat of the mile with a comeback sprint from third place to first in the last 200 meters of the race. Wirth will aim to break the 4:00 mile mark in future competitions.

Women's 200m Dash:
Junior Caisja Chandler took second in Nashville with a time of 23.86. She was only .01 seconds off first place and will return tomorrow to compete in the 60m dash.

Women's High Jump:
Freshman Annika Kinley claimed the second-place podium spot in high jump with a lifetime personal best jump of 1.78m (5'-10").  Kinley missed out on first place by two misses, as she and the first-place winner both cleared 1.78m as their final height. Senior Alyssa Mathney took first place in the unseeded section with another lifetime personal best of 1.75m (5'-8.75"), which would have taken third in the seeded section.
