2022 Swim Commit Qualifies for World Championships

CINCINNATI - Swimming and Diving 2022 commit Ido Gal qualified for the 2022 Fina World Championships in Budapest in June.

CINCINNATI - Swimming and Diving 2022 commit Ido Gal qualified for the 2022 Fina World Championships, happening in Budapest from June 18-July 3.

Gal competed in Eilat at the European Open Water Cup 10K. Despite rough conditions and a water temperature of 20 degree Celsius, he finished in 1:57:59.7 to capture 20th overall. His finish put him as the second fastest Israeli. After the approval of the Israel Swimming Committee, he earned a spot on the Israel Open Water National Team to compete at the Fina World Championships.

The field was full of Olympians, including 2020 Tokyo Olympic 10K silver medalist Kristof Rasovszky. Other teammates include Matan Roditi, who is coming off of a fourth place finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, and female competitor Eva Fabian.

Moving forward, Gal will compete in Italy at the next stop of the European Open Water Cup 10K before a training camp in Greece to prepare for the World Championships.

Following the World Championships, Ido will be joining the Bearcats for his Freshman season with the Bearcats in August.
