Leather is Headed to Eugene for NCAA Championship with New School Record in 1500m Run

The women's events at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships concluded today with the NCAA Quarterfinals in the track events and finals in the discus throw, high jump and triple jump. Ellie Leather set a new school record and scored one of the 12 coveted spots to advance to the NCAA Championship meet in their events.

Bloomington, Ind. – The women's events at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships concluded today with the NCAA Quarterfinals in the track events and finals in the discus throw, high jump and triple jump. Ellie Leather set a new school record and scored one of the 12 coveted spots to advance to the NCAA Championship meet in their events.

UC ATHLETE PERFORMANCES
Ellie Leather – 1,500-meter Run:
Leather, an NCAA All-American in the indoor mile, ran a school record of 4:11.33, the second fastest time of the day in the 1,500-meter run. This sends her on to the NCAA Championship meet in Eugene, Ore. Leather paced herself well throughout the race and took the last lap to edge out the competition and break her own school record by almost three seconds. 
 
Jane Sensibaugh – Discus Throw:
Sensibaugh threw a 50.60m (166') in the discus throw to take 23rd place at the NCAA quarterfinals in the event. Her throws improved throughout the day with her best throw coming as her final of three throws.
 
Annika Kinley and Alyssa Matheny – High Jump:
Both Kinley and Matheny cleared 1.71m (5' 7.25") in the high jump. Based on misses, Kinley finished in a tie for 34th and Matheny finished in a tie for 39th in the event. Both athletes finished higher than that were initially ranked coming into the meet.
 
Kennedy Marable and Anaya Dees – Triple Jump:
Marable and Dees finished their seasons In Bloomington with competitive jumps in the triple jump. Marable finished in 23rd with a jump of 12.66m (41' 6.50"). Dees finished in 40th with a jump of 12.15m (39' 10.50"). 
 
Caisja Chandler – 100- and 200-meter Dash:
Chandler ended her career as a Bearcat with her run in 100-meter dash. She unfortunately suffered an injury during the race, finish in 11.88 in 24th. Following her injury, she was unable to compete in the 200-meter dash. 
 
 
NEXT UP
Three Bearcats are headed to the NCAA Championship Meet in Eugene, Ore. from June 8-11. Leather will compete in the 1,500-meter run, Steven McElroy will compete in the 400-meter dash, and Leonie Troeger will compete in the javelin throw.
