CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati Athletics Department is mourning the loss of Louis "Dean" Giacometti, who died last weekend at the age of 102.
Giacometti started on the UC freshman football team in 1939 and lettered for coach Joe Meyer in 1940 and 1941. He was the oldest living former UC football player.
Nicknamed "Tiger," Giacometti was from Bellaire, Ohio. He played tackle and end for the Bearcats.
Giacometti was a World War II veteran who was drafted into the U.S. Army before his senior year.
After returning to UC following the war, he graduated in 1947 and became a beloved high school teacher and football coach at Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati. He was constant presence at team alumni events over the years and served as an honorary captain for a game at Nippert Stadium in 2018.
