McElroy Wraps Up Freshman Year Top-20 in the Nation

Competition at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships started today with the semifinals in the track events. Freshman Steven McElroy was the first Bearcat to compete in the 400-meter dash.

Eugene, Ore. – Competition at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships started today with the semifinals in the track events. Freshman Steven McElroy was the first Bearcat to compete in the 400-meter dash.
 
STEVEN MCELROY – 400-METER DASH:
McElroy, the American Athletic Conference and UC record-holder in the 400-meter dash, finished up his freshman year at Cincinnati in the 400-meter dash semifinals today. His time of 46.30 missed out on the finals by .7 seconds and was his third-fastest of the outdoor season. He finished in 19th, moving up two places from his rank of 21st going into the meet. He will look forward to continue racing as a Bearcat and setting more records next year.
 
NEXT UP
Day two of the NCAA Championship meet will take place tomorrow. Ellie Leather will first compete in the 1,500-meter run semifinals at 8:46 p.m. EST and Leonie Troeger will compete in the javelin throw at 9:45 p.m. EST. The meet will be broadcast on ESPNU starting at 8:30 p.m. EST.
