The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams are back in action after the winter break, competing in the Cardinal Classic this weekend in Louisville, Ky.

CINCINNATI— The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams are back in action after the winter break, competing in the Cardinal Classic this weekend in Louisville, Ky.

 "We are excited to start of 2023 and showcase our team at the meet in Louisville, head coach Susan Seaton said. "With Texas in attendance, we will get to measure ourselves against a future Big 12 opponent."

The Cardinal Classic is hosted by the University of Louisville and is held inside The Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center.  The meet will begin Friday, Jan. 13 at 4:00 p.m. with the women's weight throw, running events begin at 5:00 p.m. with the women's 60-meter dash preliminary rounds.

The meet will pick back up on Saturday, Jan. 14, as field events begin at 10:00 a.m. with women's shot put and running events begin at 10:50 a.m. with the women's 800-meter.

Seven schools make up the field of teams competing at the Cardinal Classic, including, Louisville, Cincinnati, Bellarmine, Xavier, Texas, Miami (FL), and Murray State (women only).

Fans can follow the action with live stats via DC timing, final results will be published at the conclusion of the meet.

// LAST TIME OUT
Last time out, Bearcats recorded 11 all-time individual top-10 marks and claimed seven event wins in their 2022-23 season opener. Fred Moudani (shot put) and Steven McElroy (300m) each broke University of Cincinnati track and field records at the Hoosier Open on Dec. 9.

In his first meet as a Bearcat transfer student, Moudani shattered the Cincinnati shot put record with his event-winning mark of 19.21m. His mark is almost one whole meter better than Mackin Tudor's record of 18.25m.
 
McElroy broke another UC record as he won the men's 300m dash with a time of 33.24, breaking Chris Borzor record (33.73), which he set last year at the Hoosier Open. McElroy also placed second overall in the men's 60m dash, finishing with a time of 6.86 seconds.

Victoria Abunaw dominated the track at the Gladstien Fieldhouse, picking up event wins in both the women's 60m hurdles (8.44) and the women's 500m (1:15.02). In the 60m hurdles preliminary round, she ran an 8.38, improving on her third-place UC record time. Abunaw also
