Cincinnati Welcomes Memphis on Saturday

The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team welcomes Memphis for a conference tilt inside Fifth Third Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team welcomes Memphis for a conference tilt inside Fifth Third Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed on ESPN+. 
 
This is the second of four home games for the Bearcats in January. Cincinnati is 3-3 at home this season.
 
Saturday marks the 63rd-ever meeting between the conference opponents. It marks the second longest rivalry in terms of total games in program history. Cincinnati trails in the all-time series 37-25 and is tied 13-13 at home, but has won all but two meetings under head coach Michelle Clark-Heard. Cincinnati defeated Memphis 71-58 on Senior Night in the last meeting on Feb. 23, 2022.
 
Cincinnati fell to SMU 55-44 inside Moody Coliseum on Jan. 10. Junior guard Jillian Hayes finished with her fifth double-double of the season on 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Bearcats received big-time contributions off the bench from senior guard Sofia Gritzali and sophomore guard Lojain Elfatairy. Gritzali finished with six points, three assists and two rebounds in 24 minutes, while Elfatairy turned in career highs in rebounds and steals with six rebounds, three steals and an assist in 12 minutes.
 
The Bearcats totaled 28 points in the paint against Tigers. Cincinnati has now scored at least 20-plus paint points in 13 of 16 games and double-digit paint points in all 16 contests.
 
Cincinnati leads the conference and ranks 11th nationally with 5.5 blocks per game as of Jan. 11. Cincinnati has totaled five or more blocks in nine contests, while six Bearcats have recorded at least one multi-block game this season. Junior guard Jillian Hayes is averaging 1.8 blocks per game, which stands second in the conference and 47th nationally as of Jan. 11.
 
Memphis is 9-8 overall, 1-3 in the AAC in its second season under head coach Katrina Merriweather. The Tigers are averaging 70.0 points and allowing 68.0 points in road contests. Memphis is 4-3 on the road this season. Memphis excels at getting to the free-throw line, leading the conference with 14.5 free throws made and 22.9 attempts per game. Fifth year guard Jamirah Shutes leads the team with 14.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 28.4 minutes per game.
