CINCINNATI — University of Cincinnati sophomore Steven McElroy was named American Athletic Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

McElroy earns the distinction in the initial week of the award after his performance at the Cardinal Classic last Friday. This is the first time in his career that he has received the honor.

The Pickerington, Ohio native turned in a personal-best indoor 400-meter time of 46.76 seconds. It marks the second fastest indoor 400-meter time in program history and earned him a second-place finish in the event.

"The clock doesn't lie, and Steven works hard every day with his teammates to run his times," associate head coach Nadine Faustin-Parker said. "He doesn't lose sight of his goals, trust in the program, or trust in the process. We are excited to see him progress this indoor and outdoor season."

His conference-leading 400-meter time currently ranks sixth in the NCAA.

Cincinnati will be back in action this weekend at the Gladstein Invitational, hosted by Indiana, in Bloomington, Ind. The two-day meet will run from Friday-Saturday, Jan. 20-21.
