CINCINNATI— The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams will head to Bloomington, Ind., to compete in the Gladstein Invitational this weekend.
 
// THE GLADSTEIN INVITATIONAL
The Gladstein Invitational is hosted by Indiana and will be held inside the Gladstein Fieldhouse. The meet will begin Friday, Jan. 21, as field events begin at 3:30 p.m. ET, followed by the running events, starting at 4:20 p.m. ET.
 
The meet will wrap up on Saturday, Jan. 22, as field events will begin at 10:45 a.m. ET, followed by the running events at 10:55 a.m. ET. A complete schedule of events and start times can be found here. Fans can follow the action via live results, which can be located here.
 
// BEARCATS IN THE RANKINGS
The Bearcats have eight athletes with marks that rank inside the Top 30 in the NCAA.
 
On the men's side, senior Fred Moudani's UC-record shot put throw of 19.57 meters currently ranks fifth in the nation and first in the AAC. Sophomore Steven McElroy's 400-meter dash time of 46.76 ranks sixth in the nation and first in the AAC.
 
On the women's side, senior Rylee Penn ranks 11th in the nation in the mile with a time of 4:42.36, and Annika Kinley's high jump mark of 1.81m., ranks 12th in the country.
 
The first edition of the USTFCCCA national and regional rankings will be released next week.
 
// MCELROY WINS AAC MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
 On Tuesday, McElroy was named American Athletic Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week. McElroy earned the distinction in the initial week of the award after his performance at the Cardinal Classic last Friday. This is the first time he has received the honor in his career. 
 
The Pickerington, Ohio native turned in a personal-best indoor 400-meter time of 46.76. It marks the second-fastest indoor 400-meter time in program history and earned him a second-place finish in the event. 
 
"The clock doesn't lie, and Steven works hard every day with his teammates to run his times," associate head coach Nadine Faustin-Parker said. "He doesn't lose sight of his goals, trust in the program, or trust in the process. We are excited to see him progress this indoor and outdoor season."
 
His conference-leading 400-meter time currently ranks sixth in the NCAA.
 
// BREAKING RECORDS
Last time out, the Cincinnati track and field teams competed at the Cardinal Classic in Louisville, Ky., where the Bearcats broke two school records, recorded 11 UC top-10 marks, and won five events.
 
For the second time this season, senior Fred Moudani broke the UC men's indoor shot put record after recording a mark of 19.57 meters on his final throw. Moudani bested his previous mark of 19.21 meters by .36m as he placed first overall. His 19.57-meter mark is currently the fourth-best throw in the country and was a Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center facility record.
 
Junior Giovanni Gutierrez and sophomore Korbin Spencer each recorded a UC men's shot pot top-10 mark as well. Gutierrez recorded the second-best mark in school history with a throw of 18.29 meters and placed third overall, while Spencer's mark of 16.92 meters moved him into ninth place in school history as he finished sixth overall.
 
Freshman Seth Elking set the UC men's mile freshman record with a time of 4:07.43. His time is also the ninth fastest mile in school history. Junior Matt Hoak placed second overall with his mile time of 4:04.53. He placed second overall in the race, moving him to third in the UC record book.
