CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team hosts Houston for a midweek matchup inside Fifth Third Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m. E.T. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
This marks the first of two home contests to end of the month of January. The Bearcats will also welcome Wichita State on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. ET.
 
Wednesday will be the 32nd meeting between the conference opponents. Cincinnati leads the all-time series 23-8 and 10-3 at home. The Bearcats are 5-2 against the Cougars under head coach Michelle Clark-Heard. The two teams have split their meetings each of the last two seasons.
 
It will be a battle of two of the top defensive teams in the American Athletic Conference. Cincinnati leads the conference and ranks 16th nationally with 5.2 blocks per game, third in the conference with 17.6 turnovers forced per game and fifth in the conference with 8.2 steals per game as of Jan. 22. Houston boasts one of the top defenses in the nation, standing second with 13.6 steals per game and third with 24.9 turnovers forced per game as of Jan. 22.
 
Cincinnati battled through eight ties and eight more lead changes last time out, but ultimately fell to East Carolina 61-53 inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum on Jan. 18. Junior guard Jillian Hayes led the Bearcats with a team-high in points and rebounds, finishing with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
 
Senior forward Jadyn Scott recorded a season-high 12 points on 4-5 from the field and 4-4 from the line, while senior guard Caitlyn Wilson added 11 points propelled by a trio of threes from behind the arc. Sophomore guard Braylyn Milton dished out a career-high eight assists, the most by a Bearcat this season. Cincinnati also finished with 16 assists against the Pirates, which ties the second-most this season.
 
Cincinnati has received contributions from a variety of players with 10 of the 13 Bearcats averaging double-digit minutes per game. Cincinnati has recorded 409 points, 22.7 points per game off its bench and is 6-5 when outscoring their opponent in bench points this season. Cincinnati finished with 33 bench points at East Carolina; the Bearcats have totaled at least 30 bench points in four of their last eight games and at least 20 bench points in 12 of 18 games.
 
The Houston Cougars are 6-13 overall, 3-3 in the AAC in their ninth season under head coach Ronald Hughey. Houston is averaging 61.8 points per game and allowing 66.8 on the road this season. Junior Laila Blair is leading the team with 14.3 points and 2.8 assists in 33.3 minutes per game. She is 25 points shy of 1,000 for her career.
